I worked in these wards in 1983.
I am thrilled to see the building used in such a wonderful way as I visit the Book Festival with my grandchildren 41 years later.
I remember many moments. One was taking a history and doing an examination on an unfortunate man with a fracture. It was 3am and the lights were out because in a Nightingale ward, as it was then, everyone was asleep. I did my best in the dark and was only told next day that the poor man was also infested with lice. I remember scratching all day until I got home for a bath.
The good old bad old days.

Remembering the hospital with dark corridors and several cats living in them to control the rats.
