What is On the Road?

The Edinburgh International Book Festival On the Road takes the Book Festival around Scotland throughout the year, supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

A celebration of words and ideas, the Book Festival On the Road blends the very best from groups and organisations across the country with the energy and excitement of the August Book Festival. Produced in collaboration with a variety of partners, this wide-ranging programme of events and activities brings authors, artists and audiences together to inspire each other and to be inspired, to share stories and experiences, and bring books to life for people of all ages in their own communities.

All new and upcoming projects will be announced here and on edbookfest.co.uk.

We’re always on the look out for new partners to help our On the Road programme grow across the country. If you’d like to get involved, please email us on: ontheroad@edbookfest.co.uk

The Edinburgh International Book Festival began in 1983 and has grown to become the world’s largest public celebration of the written word. Taking place each August in Edinburgh’s Charlotte Square Gardens, the Book Festival stages over 700 events for adults and young people in a magical pop-up tented village. With the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the Book Festival created On the Road to take the atmosphere and energy of the Book Festival to other communities around Scotland.
