I started as a student radiographer in the Royal in1969. Our classroom and locker room was in the basement of the medical corridor. It was incredibly hot, windowless and airless with the heating pipes crossing the low ceiling. Whoever was first to arrive in the morning would have to put their hand round the door of the locker room, turn on the light and wait for the hundreds, if not thousands, of cockroaches completely covering the floor to scuttle under the lockers.
Happy days!
