Before an emergency appendix op, I remember a lovely nurse pushing a wheel chair from one department to another as no available porters. She kept apologising as the wheel chair had a life of its own and was attracted to walls and door jams- a little uncomfortable.
The new doctor had not quite mastered taking blood and on his approach the ward emptied as more patients suddenly needed the bathroom.
After op, spent many hours walking backwards and forwards with my drip towards the grand entrance and back to the ward.
In the late 80’s my husband has an op which was not as successful as the team had hoped but at least they tried. In a room on his own to recover, the food trolley was outside where the staff discussed what they thought the food would be like, none of which was very complimentary. As he was always served last, they seemed to be astonished that he was not tempted by it!!! Smuggling in food from home became my role.
Just want to add that I love this hospital and our NHS and those who work for it. Thank you!
