I was born on the 12th October 1946 in Simpsons Memorial Maternity Pavillion.
I attended the ERI Skin Department many times from infancy to my adult years. I had and still have Eczema. I remember with gratitude the kindness, help and care given to me by the wonderful consultants, doctors and nurses when I attended for treatment during outbreaks. My memories are of instant relief from inflammation and itch after being prescribed coal tar spreads and of the nurses who dressed my arms and legs with bandages. I remember the consulting rooms were round at the back of the building on the ground floor. I was given the best of care. My mum came with me to these visits and on the way home, we would pick up my prescription from the chemist on Forrest Road for more coal tar ointment. This was used at home until the flare up was back under control.
I have attended the ERI on other occasions for other illnesses but my everlasting memory of this amazing hospital, is of the Skin Department for which I remain forever grateful.
