I trained as a nurse on the BSc Nursing Studies course at Edinburgh University.
My mum gave me my ‘nurses watch’ and her old silver buckle from when she trained in Kent in the 1960s.
I remember having the beautiful red cape that crossed over at the front – why on earth didn’t I keep it?
I worked on Ward 26 (medical) and Ward 7 (surgical).
An awful memory of Ward 7 was serving liver and bacon for breakfast to patients who were there for liver problems!
I would particularly love to have an old map of the hospital from the 1980s that shows where all the wards were, because I just can’t make sense of it all now.
At this stage in my career (I’m nearly 55) I have just accepted a job with NHS Scotland and I’m coming back!! It’s all part of a journey to rediscover Edinburgh and immerse back in this brilliant place.
