The Train of Thought, 26/08/2022

23rd September 2022

The journey starts in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire (“slawit”). We load the car with bags, I pile in the back, competing for space with our two dogs who are on their way for their weekend holiday in Leeds with their grandparents. Then on to Penrith, where the train station has no food provision! I spend half an hour walking the length of Carlisle station before the busy Transpennine service arrives to take me from the Lake District and across the border to rainy Edinburgh. I walk through crowds of tourists, overflowing bins, and arty young folk handing out leaflets for shows this afternoon. At last I reach the Edinburgh College of Art where I find Gracie in her coral suit, ready to perform in a woodland tepee, rain pattering on its roof. Her seal story took us to the banks of the Clyde, and tonight we’ll head to Glasgow on the late night train, after an evening of Edinburgh Festival fun. The End!
